1700V InnoSwitch ™ 3-AQ flyback switch complies with IEC 60664-1 insulation standard
Power Integrations (NASDAQ stock code: POWI), a well-known company specializing in high-efficiency power conversion of high-voltage integrated circuits, announced today its InnoSwitch for automotive applications ™ 3-AQ flyback switch IC launches wide creepage package option. The 5.1mm wide drain source pin creepage distance does not require spray coating with three proof paint, making the IC compliant with the IEC 60664-1 standard for 800V vehicles. This simplifies the production and manufacturing process while improving system reliability.
Mike Stroka, Product Marketing Engineer at Power Integrations, said: "Automotive designers are enthusiastic about the high efficiency and low component count advantages of using InnoSwitch 3-AQ IC's high-voltage power supplies. The new package's increased creepage distance and electrical gap between the primary side drain and source pins provide support for the next generation of electric vehicle bus voltage. Power Integrations' unique InSOP ™- The 28G package can apply a high voltage of 1000VDC on the primary side, while ensuring that all other pins can still be safely isolated in a level 2 polluted environment
The InnoSwitch3-AQ switching power supply IC with a rated withstand voltage of 1700V integrates a primary switch made of silicon carbide (SiC), which can provide up to 80W of output power. This highly integrated IC can reduce the number of components in the power supply by up to 50%, thereby saving space, enhancing system reliability, and alleviating the challenges faced in component procurement. The increase in the width of the drain pin is beneficial for withstanding high-intensity impacts and vibrations, especially in automotive applications that use electric drive axles.
The new members of the InnoSwitch 3-AQ series can start with a drain voltage as low as 30V without the need for an external startup circuit, which is crucial for functional safety. Other protection functions include input undervoltage protection, output overvoltage protection, and overcurrent limitation. Synchronous rectification and multi-mode valley opening, intermittent/continuous conduction mode (DCM/CCM) flyback controllers can provide over 90% efficiency. The no-load power consumption of the device is less than 15mW. The target automotive applications include battery management systems, µ DC-DC converters, control circuits, and emergency power sources in main traction inverters. The new IC has also improved the remote on/off function.
Supply and related resources
The new 1700V rated voltage InnoSwitch 3-AQ switching power supply IC is priced at $6 per piece based on an order quantity of 10000 pieces. IC samples have started to be supplied and will be fully mass-produced in the first quarter of 2025.
