In battery powered applications such as motor drives and switch mode power supplies (SMPS), the power architecture typically requires the ability to disconnect the module from the main power rail in the event of a module failure. To achieve this function, high side disconnect switches such as MOSFETs are often used to prevent load short circuits from affecting the battery. Infineon Technologies Inc. (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY) launches EiceDRIVE ™ 1EDL8011, this high edge grid driver can protect battery powered applications such as cordless power tools, robots, electric bicycles, vacuum cleaners, etc. in the event of a malfunction.
EiceDRIVER™ 1EDL8011 DSO-8
This semiconductor device has high gate current capability and can achieve fast turn-on and turn off of high side N-channel MOSFETs. It consists of an integrated charge pump and an external capacitor, providing powerful start-up capability. When the input voltage is low, the internal charge pump will provide MOSFET gate voltage. This gate driver IC can manage surge currents and provide fault protection. Its input voltage undervoltage lockout (UVLO) protection function prevents the device from operating under hazardous conditions. This driver adopts DSO-8 packaging, which is very suitable for designs with limited space. It includes overcurrent protection (OCP), adjustable current setting threshold, time delay, and a safe start-up mechanism with flexible blanking function during MOSFET conduction transition.
The working voltage range of 1EDL8011 is wide from 8V to 125V, with a gate sinking current of up to 1A, enabling efficient switching. In addition, the shutdown mode static current of the product is as low as 1 µ A, which helps to minimize power consumption in sleep mode as much as possible. The device also has VDS sensing function, which can trigger overcurrent shutdown by monitoring the voltage from the drain to the source of the MOSFET.
Supply situation
1EDL8011 is now available on the market.
