Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (hereinafter referred to as "Murata") has developed a resin external electrode sheet multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) "GCJ21BD72A225KE02" (hereinafter referred to as "this product") for automotive powertrain/safety equipment (1). With a size of 0805 inches (2.0 × 1.25mm) and a rated voltage of 100Vdc, Murata has achieved a super large electrostatic capacity of 2.2 μ F for the first time (2). The product has started mass production.


This product achieves miniaturization, large capacity, and high voltage resistance in automotive power systems, while reducing the risk of cracking caused by substrate bending, which helps to enhance the reliability of mounting.

In recent years, with the continuous enhancement of AD (3)/ADAS (4) functions and the continuous promotion of vehicle electrification, the number of components installed has increased, and the limitation of substrate space has become increasingly strict. In addition, due to the increasing demand for electricity brought about by vehicle electrification, the application of 48V power supply systems is becoming increasingly common. MLCCs used for such circuits in automobiles need to simultaneously consider miniaturization, large capacity, and high voltage resistance.
In addition, due to temperature changes caused by vibration and heating during vehicle operation, the mounting substrate may bend, posing a risk of component cracking.

To this end, Murata used proprietary ceramic materials and micro particle and homogenization technologies for ceramic material design, and developed this product. Under the conditions of 0805 inch (2.0 × 1.25mm) size and rated voltage of 100Vdc, it achieved a 2.2 μ F super large electrostatic capacity of resin external electrode MLCC for automobiles.
Previously, in Murata's product with a rated voltage of 100Vdc and an electrostatic capacity of 2.2 μ F, the 1206 inch (3.2 × 1.6mm) size was a small size, but this product successfully reduced the size to 0805 inches. As a result, compared to Murata's previous products with a rated voltage of 100Vdc and an electrostatic capacity of 2.2 μ F, the mounting area has been reduced by about 51%. In addition, compared to previous products of Murata 0805 inch size (rated voltage 100Vdc, electrostatic capacity 1.0 μ F), the electrostatic capacity has increased by about 2.2 times.
In the future, Murata will continue to promote the development of multi-layer ceramic capacitors for automobiles that combine miniaturization, large capacity, high voltage resistance, and high reliability.
