TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has launched the Micronas HAL 13xy series, a factory programmable Hall effect switch sensor designed specifically for speed and direction detection in automotive and industrial applications. HAL 13xy adopts TDK Micronas' mature 3D HAL technology, integrating three orthogonal Hall elements (X, Y, Z) in the pixel unit, providing 90 ° phase separation (orthogonal signal), and its characteristics are essentially independent of magnetic pole spacing and air gap. This design allows for simultaneous measurement of two magnetic field components, providing manufacturers with maximum flexibility in sensor and magnet placement.

In the automotive field, the HAL 13xy series can be used for applications such as seat track motors, sunroof drives, tailgate motors, valve positions, steering column motors, steering turn induction, and window lifters with anti pinch function. *Planned to start production in October 2026. Samples are now available.
HAL 13xy provides two independent open drain outputs that can be configured as orthogonal velocity/speed or velocity/direction signals. This flexible output configuration supports compact motor control in applications that require precise, reliable, and space saving sensing technology. With its robust design and multifunctional output, HAL 13xy helps achieve smooth motion control, high safety standards, and enhanced user comfort.
The working junction temperature range of HAL 13xy is -40 ℃ to 170 ℃, supporting a wide power supply voltage range of 3.0 V to 24 V, and providing powerful protection functions, including 40 V load drop immunity, -18 V reverse voltage protection, and short circuit/thermal protection. This device can maintain a constant switching point when the power supply voltage and temperature change, ensuring stable performance in harsh environments. It complies with the AEC-Q100 automotive electronics standard and provides high electromagnetic compatibility according to ISO and IEC requirements.
As an independent safety unit (SEooC), HAL 13xy integrates continuous built-in self-test (BIST), which meets the ASIL B-level standard of ISO 26262 and is suitable for integration into automotive safety related systems. This sensor can operate in static and dynamic magnetic fields up to 40 kHz, and is compatible with various types of ferrites and rare earth magnets due to its multiple temperature coefficient options.
The HAL 13xy series features a compact 5-pin SOT23 package with high ESD immunity (up to 4 kV HBM) and configurable sensing axes, providing engineers with a multifunctional and cost-effective solution for precise motor control and position detection in space constrained automotive and industrial applications.
