High resolution imaging under extremely high speed conditions can achieve precise capture of rapid transient events

Excelitas ® Recently announced the launch of pco.dimax 3.6 DS ST CLHS. This is a brand new high-speed dual shutter camera designed specifically for capturing extremely high-speed phenomena, which can simultaneously achieve high temporal resolution and high-quality detail images.
PCO.dimax 3.6 DS ST CLHS is the first dual shutter high-speed camera to offer a resolution of 3.6 million pixels (1984 × 1808), meeting the demand for higher spatial detail resolution without sacrificing speed. This camera combines a resolution of 3.6 million pixels with advanced dual shutter CMOS technology, allowing it to capture over 1000 sets of dual frame images per second at full resolution. Its dual shutter working mode has an ultra short frame time of 250 nanoseconds, enabling precise measurement of fast motion, making it highly suitable for particle image velocimetry (PIV), flow field visualization, combustion research, impact testing, and other high-speed scientific and industrial applications.
In order to support high data rate workflows, the camera is equipped with a Camera Link HS (CLHS) FOL interface, which can achieve real-time data stream transmission through eight 10Gb fiber optic connections and support uncompressed 10 bit data transmission. This capability enables devices to achieve continuous data collection in high-throughput environments and enables data to be used for analysis in real-time.
Other performance characteristics include:
•11 µ m pixel size for high sensitivity
• Supports global shutter and dual shutter working modes
•Flexible ROI and pixel merging options to improve frame rate
•Air cooled or liquid cooled configuration ensures reliable operation in harsh environments
This camera supports a wide range of application areas, including aerospace and wind tunnel testing, validation of automotive airbags and components, ballistic research, fuel injection research, industrial production analysis, welding and laser process monitoring, and advanced fluid dynamics research.
Mohamed Ali Souissi, Product Manager at Esselda, stated that the development of pco.dimax 3.6 DS ST CLHS aims to meet the demand for higher resolution imaging at extremely high speeds. By combining ultra short inter frame time, high-resolution dual shutter capability, and high-throughput data stream transmission, this system allows researchers and engineers to capture high-speed and complex event processes with precision that meets advanced analysis requirements
