Target application: Power conversion for industrial equipment and computer peripherals
STMicroelectronics' STDRIVEG210 and STDRIVEG211 half bridge gallium nitride (GaN) gate drivers are specifically designed for industrial or telecommunications equipment bus voltage supply systems, 72V battery systems, and 110V AC power supply equipment. The power rail has a rated maximum voltage of 220V, and an on-chip integrated linear regulator provides a 6V gate drive signal for the upper and lower bridge arms. The pull current and sink current paths are designed separately and independently, allowing for flexible control of GaN turn-on and turn off.

STDRIVEG210 focuses on power conversion applications, such as server power supplies, battery chargers, power adapters, solar micro inverters and power optimizers, LED lighting fixtures, USB-C power supplies. Both resonant and hard switching topologies are applicable, and the 300ns startup time significantly reduces the wake-up time. The effect is particularly significant during intermittent operation (burst mode).
STDRIVEG211 is equipped with overcurrent detection and intelligent shutdown functions, suitable for motor drives and Class D audio amplifiers of electric tools, electric bicycles, pumps, servos, etc., except for power applications.
Both devices integrate bootstrap diodes, which can easily power the upper bridge arm driver, simplifying system circuit design and minimizing bill of materials (BOM) costs. The gate drive path adopts a separate and independent design, with a current of 2.4A and a current of 1.0A, ensuring fast switching and convenient optimization of dV/dt parameters. The protection function includes interlocking function to prevent cross conduction. The transmission delay of the upper and lower bridge arm drivers is very short, with a matching time of 10 ns, which can reduce the dead time of the half bridge. The undervoltage lockout (UVLO) function can prevent the device from entering low efficiency or hazardous conditions, and the STDRIVEG211 designed for motor drive applications also has an additional upper arm UVLO protection function.
Both devices also have overheat protection function and dV/dt immunity up to ± 200V/ns, while the input voltage tolerance of up to 20V helps simplify the controller interface circuit. The standby pin helps simplify power management design, and the independent power grounding pin facilitates the design of better Kelvin source gate drive or current shunt detection circuits.
