Promote the widespread application of NFC technology in industrial, consumer, medical and other fields
On February 12, 2025, China - STMicroelectronics has launched an innovative contactless near-field communication (NFC) technology application development kit. This development kit includes STMicroelectronics' newly launched ST25R200 read-write chip, making innovation in NFC technology applications simpler and easier. STMicroelectronics' new generation NFC transceiver chip ST25R200 integrates advanced design to ensure strong and pure wireless connection signals, low power consumption and power control functions to ensure signal connection quality, and auxiliary power management to improve energy efficiency.
The STEVAL-25R200SA reader evaluation kit includes a small-sized ST25R200 motherboard that can be directly powered on and multiple antenna sets, making it easy for users to design single antenna, dual antenna, and flexible antenna systems. It also comes with a 50 ohm antenna interface and programmable tags.
This modular kit helps to quickly build product concept validation models and demonstrate the performance of convenient short-range wireless communication technology in device pairing, configuration settings, or product validation brand protection applications. The motherboard and antenna of the kit have passed NFC certification and are suitable for various products such as industrial, consumer, and health products, such as medical equipment, power tools, household appliances, game consoles, and personal healthcare equipment.
Patrick Sohn, Manager of STMicroelectronics' NFC Tag and Reader Business Unit, stated that the ST25R200 is designed specifically for developers with limited experience in NFC technology development, with the aim of simplifying the application design process. The chip has a high cost-effectiveness and expands the design safety margin. The STEVAL-25R200SA evaluation kit provides a large number of ready-made antenna configurations
The ST25R200 NFC reader is equipped with STMicroelectronics' Noise Suppression Receiver (NSR), ensuring strong anti-interference capability of the receiver. Even if the chip is close to a noise source, such as an LCD panel in the same device, the receiving performance will not be affected. The receiving circuit is also equipped with advanced analog front-end (AFE), standard NFC-A/B (ISO 14443A/B) data framing module, and NFC-V (ISO 15693) data framing module.
The reader also has an upgraded low-power card detection (LPCD) function, which simplifies the system wake-up process and ensures a smooth and seamless user experience. The 1.2W transmitter has a dynamic power output (DPO) control function, which can adjust the field strength and overshoot/undershoot protection voltage to ensure stable signal connection throughout the entire data exchange process.
The power supply voltage and peripheral I/O voltage range of this reader is 2.7V to 5.5V, and the operating temperature range is -40 ° C to 85 ° C. Multiple working modes assist in power management to further improve chip energy efficiency, reducing current to a minimum of 1 µ A and extending the battery life of battery powered devices. In reset mode, the chip only consumes 0.1 µ A of current.
The ST25R200 is now in mass production, with a 4mm x 4mm 24 pin TQFN compact package that allows small devices to provide users with a contactless card interaction experience. The STEVAL-25R200SA evaluation kit has been launched on the official website of STMicroelectronics.
