Tektronix officially released the MP5000 series modular precision testing system today. As a transformative solution, this system will lead the future development direction in the field of automated testing. With a modular concept at its core, engineers can flexibly combine precision source measurement units (SMUs) and programmable power supply units (PSUs) within a compact 1U rack mounted host, providing the necessary adaptability and scalability for modern verification and production processes.
The system's initial release includes three core components: a 60 volt dual channel source measurement unit (SMU), a dual channel 50 watt bipolar power supply, and an MP5103 host. Engineers can configure up to 6 independent channels per chassis and connect up to 32 hosts to achieve high-throughput and high synchronization multi site testing. Module replacement can be completed in just a few minutes, allowing customers to expand system functionality or perform maintenance on individual channels without shutting down.
The core of automated testing has always been to strike a balance between accuracy and efficiency, "said Chris Bohn, President of Tektronix Technology." With this modular system, customers can flexibly expand their power and measurement solutions based on innovative needs without compromising on performance. This is not only a testing system, but also a blueprint for the development of automated testing in the next decade
Suitable for application scenarios that require high precision and flexibility
From verification testing, reliability testing to mass production, the MP5000 series provides flexibility, channel density, and automation capabilities to meet constantly changing needs. The system integrates precision and scalability, providing a modern foundation for high difficulty workflows, while its open platform design also reserves space for customers' future development.
The core advantages of MP5000 series
Every design detail of the MP5000 series is aimed at helping engineers achieve more with less resources - reducing rack space occupation, shortening downtime, and lowering operational complexity. Its core advantages include:
Future oriented modular design: Flexible combination of source measurement units (SMUs) and programmable power supply units (PSUs) within the host, which can be reconfigured within minutes to adapt to changing needs;
High density and compact design: Each 1U chassis supports up to 6 channels and can connect up to 32 hosts, meeting the needs of parallel multi site testing;
Unlimited performance: The Source Measurement Unit (SMU) module has a resolution of 100 femtolide (fA) and a digitization rate of 1 megabits per second (MSa/s), enabling high-speed data acquisition; The power supply unit (PSU) module has an output power of up to 50 watts per channel, supports bipolar output, and is equipped with advanced protection functions;
Built in automation function: Integrated Test Script Processor (TSP), which can eliminate latency between computers and instruments and achieve sub microsecond level synchronization across racks; Simultaneously compatible with Python, LabVIEW, and IVI drivers, facilitating seamless integration into existing workflows;
Maximizing runtime: Supports calibration only for modules, equipped with independent slot power control function, and provides intuitive web and touch operation interface, greatly reducing system operation interruptions.
Looking ahead to the future: ushering in a new era of modularity
The release of the MP5000 series marks the beginning of a new era of modular development for Tektronix. At present, Tektronix has initiated research and development work on a higher performance module - a 200 volt source measurement unit (SMU) module with higher pulse capability. This module will expand the platform's application range to the highly demanding semiconductor and optoelectronic fields, and is expected to be launched in early 2026. This measure not only demonstrates Tektronix's rapid expansion pace, but also further confirms that the system aims to continue evolving with the future development of the testing field.
