As the automotive structure transitions to hybrid and electric vehicle models, traditional battery systems are increasingly being supplemented or replaced by 48V power sources. As the 12V and 24V power grid systems have reached their limits, this transition is expected to become the new standard for future electric vehicles. The 48V system provides advanced functionality and improves efficiency by reducing current and simplifying wiring harness complexity. Moreover, traditional relays and fuses in the primary and secondary distribution systems are no longer sufficient to meet the requirements of electrification, and therefore need to be replaced. To promote this electrification process, Infineon Technologies AG (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY), a global semiconductor leader in power systems and the Internet of Things, has launched the Power PROFET ™ + The 24/48V switch series is developed specifically to meet the requirements of modern automotive power systems.
Power PROFET™ + 24/48V
Power PROFET ™ + The 24/48V switch series adopts a compact TO leadless package and includes two high side switch models, BTH50030-1LUA (RDS (ON) is 3.0 m Ω) and BTH50015-1LUA (RDS (ON) is 1.5 m Ω), which can significantly reduce power loss in high current applications. This series of products is highly suitable for meeting the strict requirements of today's automotive electrical systems, commercial vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and the next generation of electric vehicles, creating a safer, more environmentally friendly, and comfortable driving experience.
Power PROFET ™ + The main advantages of the 24/48V switch series are high efficiency and space saving. Not only is it highly integrated, but it also has resettable and diagnostic functions. This series is designed to achieve better performance in harsh environments, with a conduction resistance of only 1.5 m Ω, making it very suitable for high current applications. It is also robust and durable, and can withstand high temperature cabin and engine compartment environments. It can be switched over 1 million times, far exceeding the average of 200000 times for traditional relays, and has extremely high reliability.
The product has built-in protection and diagnostic functions, such as short circuit, overcurrent, and overheating protection, to ensure equipment safety. Diagnostic signals can perform advanced fault detection and improve the reliability of the entire vehicle by preventing fault modes in the power supply network. The switch adopts an 8-pin TO leadless package, which occupies 23% less space compared to the D2PAK package with similar thermal performance. The accuracy of load current detection after calibration is ± 5%, which can be easily determined by reading the analog voltage on the IS pin. In addition, this series of switches also achieves PRO-SIL ™ The ISO 26262 switch standard, accompanied by safety application instructions, can help users evaluate hardware components according to the ISO 26262 standard.
To assist users in seamless integration, the Infineon Developer Center provides Power PROFET ™ + The 24/48V series offers an online simulation tool - Infineon Automotive Power Explorer. This tool can help calculate the inherent characteristics of fuses and display the induced current range of specific load currents in the form of visual charts, ensuring that users can use them accurately and efficiently.
Supply situation
Power PROFET ™ + The 24/48V switches BTH50030-1LUA and BTH50015-1LUA have now been put into production. For the convenience of users for integration and evaluation, Infineon also provides Arduino shielding board (BOARD BTH50015-1LUA). The series will soon add the 6 m Ω model product BTH50060-1LUA. At present, samples can be provided according to customer requirements.
