With the increasing power requirements of artificial intelligence (AI) processors, server power supplies (PSUs) must provide higher power without exceeding the specified size of server racks, mainly due to the surge in energy demand for advanced GPUs. By the end of this decade, the energy consumption of each advanced GPU chip may reach 2 kilowatts or more. The emergence of these requirements, as well as higher demand applications and related specific customer needs, has prompted Infineon Technologies Inc. (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY) to develop SiC MOSFET products with voltages below 650 V. Now, Infineon is launching a new CoolSiC based on the second-generation (G2) CoolSiCTM technology released earlier this year ™ MOSFET 400 V series. The new MOSFET product portfolio is specifically developed for AC/DC level AI servers and is a supplement to Infineon's recently released PSU roadmap. This series of devices is also suitable for solar and energy storage systems (ESS), variable frequency motor control, industrial and auxiliary power supplies (SMPS), and residential building solid-state circuit breakers.
CoolSiC™ MOSFET 400 V TO-Leadless
Richard Kunic, the head of Infineon's Power Systems business line, said, "Infineon's rich and high-performance MOSFET and GaN transistor product portfolio can meet the demanding design and space requirements of AI server power supplies. We are committed to using CoolSiC ™ Advanced products such as MOSFET 400 V G2 provide support to customers and drive advanced AI applications to achieve maximum energy efficiency
Compared to existing 650 V SiC and Si MOSFETs, the new series has ultra-low conduction and switching losses. The AC/DC level of this AI server power supply device adopts multi-level PFC, with a power density of over 100 W/in ³ and an efficiency of 99.5%, which is 0.3 percentage points higher than the solution using 650 V SiC MOSFET. In addition, due to the use of CoolGaN at the DC/DC level ™ Transistors have improved their system solutions. By combining this high-performance MOSFET with transistors, the power supply can provide power of over 8 kilowatts, with a power density more than three times higher than existing solutions.
The new MOSFET product portfolio includes a total of 10 products: 5 RDS (on) level (11 to 45 m Ω) products with Kelvin source TOLL and D ² PAK-7 packaging XT packaging interconnection technology. At Tvj=25 ° C, its drain source breakdown voltage is 400 V, making it very suitable for use in 2nd and 3rd stage converters and synchronous rectification. These components have high robustness under harsh switching conditions and have passed 100% avalanche testing. Highly robust CoolSiC ™ Technology and The combination of XT interconnect technology enables these semiconductor devices to cope with power peaks and transients caused by sudden changes in AI processor power requirements, and with connection technology and low positive RDS (on) temperature coefficient, they can perform excellently even under high junction temperature operating conditions.
